Benjamin SHORTEN

Academic Quality Manager (Whole School) / Deputy Head of Secondary (Pastoral)

Benjamin
SHORTEN

Benjamin joined the British International School of Timișoara in its very first year of operation and has been an important part of our community ever since. He is currently our Deputy Head of Secondary (Pastoral), with particular responsibility for supporting student wellbeing and the pastoral life of the Secondary School.
Benjamin grew up in Mallorca, Spain, where he attended Queen’s College International School. Having been an international school student himself and having grown up as a Third Culture Kid, he brings a genuinely international outlook to education and a natural understanding of international school communities. This background has shaped both his approach to education and his engaging personality, making him a firm favourite with students, parents and colleagues alike.
A native speaker of both English and Spanish, Benjamin spent five years teaching sport in English to Spanish children. He developed a particular passion for Sports Science through his own sporting experience, having captained his local rugby team and represented Spain at national level.
Benjamin studied Primary Education at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom and subsequently taught in Scotland after completing his degree. His combination of international experience, educational expertise and sporting background makes him a highly valued and distinctive member of our school community.
